Rose of Tralee: The Roses, their escorts and entourage participated in the Sunday service in St. John’s on the 19th August. This is a long running tradition in Tralee, for years a civic service in conjunction with the festival of Kerry was held in St John’s Ashe Street at which all the participants and the Rose committee attended.
For the past number of years a different format has been followed with Roses attending services in the various churches in the town. It was lovely to welcome them to Church and to meet with them during refreshments in teach an tSolais afterwards, Many thanks to all who contributed to the service.
Healer Prayer: This ministry will continue with a service in Teach an tSolais on Tuesday 4th Sept at 8 pm, followed by tea and fellowship. Please email marion.hogan@hotmail.com to have names included or else write the names in the black notebooks at the back of each church.
Keeping St Johns Open:
A start was made on this when the Church was opened to the public for eight days around the festival of Kerry and Heritage week https://www.heritageweek.ie/whats-on/event/visit-st-johns-church-of-ireland, This was made possible by the generosity of those volunteers who stayed in the Church to welcome visitors for two hours each day.
It also coincided with Heritage week and a guided talk was given by a great friend of the parish, Donal O’Sullivan on Friday 17th August.
For the first time the Festival committee organised a town walk which included the Mulchinock tomb in the Church grounds.
Fund Raising Quiz: A fund raising pub quiz will be held in O’Riadas bar in Ballymac on the 21st September. Please support this event if you can.Prizes and donations welcome.
Sympathy: We extend our sympathy to the O’Donnell family on the loss of their nephew, Michael Hayes and to the family and friends of Breda Sherwood.
Boys’ Brigade: The Boys’ Brigade will resume its activities on Friday September 28th at 7.20pm in Teach an tSolais. The Boys’ Brigade is open to boys and girls aged 5 to 12 year olds (Children must be 5 on date of registration for insurance purposes). Family Service.
It is hoped to have a family type service on the 16th September in Tralee around the theme of back to school.

Giles family gathering:
This Sunday we welcome members of the Giles family to St Johns for the morning service.They have returned from the USA, The UK and various parts of Ireland for a family a reunion.We wish them every blessing as they gather for this happy occasion.
Anam Cara Kerry: the organisation that supports bereaved parents is holding a Bereavement Information Evening on Tuesday 11th September at 7:30pm in the Meadowlands Hotel, Tralee, Co. Kerry. This free event is open to all bereaved parents. As Anam Cara will need to confirm numbers for teas, coffees, etc, please RSVP to info@anamcara.ie before Mon 10th September or call Information Line on 085 2888 888.
Sunday Clubs
The first Sunday club meeting in Tralee will be on the 23rd of September and will be held approximately once a month after that. If anyone would like to be added to the Sunday club mailing list please send your e mail address to giles.rory@gmail.com all children up to primary school age are welcome to come along.
Ballymacelligott Sunday club will resume in September, The dates will be communicated locally.
Pallatine Gathering:
A small group of visitors with Palatine ancestry will visit the parish on the 30th September.They will attend the morning service in Tralee which will be followed by refreshments in teach an tSolais, They will then visit Ballymac and Ballyseedy churches in the afternoon.
Padraig o Conchubhair will speak on the Palatines during the service. It will be an opportunity for any parishioners who are of Palatine descent to come and hear what he has to say. Learn more about their history and meet with fellow palatines from Kerry and Limerick.Palatine names include Poff, Gleasure , Hoffmann, Fitzell.
News from The West:
Kilgobbin Parish Fundraiser: On Monday 6th August, there was a sale to raise funds for the repairs needed to Kilgobbin and Killiney churches, in the Old School Rooms, Camp, which raised the incredible sum of €1585.00. We would like to thank all who generously donated to the stalls, gave of their time, and their support. A big thank you to all who came and made the day so successful, especially our local community. It was a happy day, with wonderful fellowship.
St. James Fundraiser: On Sunday 19th August there was a Bingo Evening to raise funds for St. James Church, Dingle. This was organised by Helen Martin and her friends Breda and Ann from the Quilting Group. It was a most enjoyable evening which raised the grand sum of €609.25. Grateful thanks to all who attended, those who generously donated prizes, those who provided refreshments and worked so hard to make the evening such a success.
