Safeguarding

The Church of Ireland is committed to the protection of young people and vulnerable adults in our care.

The Church’s Safeguarding Trust Policy has been developed in line with the requirements under the Children First Act 2015 and Chapter XVI of the Constitution of the Church of Ireland outlines the policies that all dioceses and parishes should adhere to.

Child Safeguarding issues are dealt with in parishes, by a Parish Panel. In every parish building there are posters identifying who the members of the Parish Panel are.

The Parish Panel is the designated contact point for:

  • a worker, parent or parishioner who has received a disclosure from a child that he/she may be suffering or has suffered abuse.
  • a worker, parent or parishioner who has concerns of a child protection nature relating to children’s work or youth ministry in the parish.
  • a child who wishes to report abuse.

All Clergy, Parish Panel Members, Staff, Children’s and Youth workers in the Diocese receive training in Safeguarding Trust.
