The Mothers’ Union Women’s Getaway took place at the Springfield Hotel, Leixlip from 4th to 5th November, 2022.
Along with members from all over Ireland, ten members of Tuam MU attended this event at which in the presence of All Ireland MU president June Butler the Worldwide President Sheran Harper gave very inspirational speeches.
The evening began with a welcome 3 course dinner followed by an “Interview” with Sheran. A “Beetle Drive” with fun prizes as well as a fun “What’s in your phone?” search followed. All this was greatly enjoyed with new and old friends. Of course, the morning began with a hearty breakfast and then more members from the general locality joined the event. Sheran then inspired and challenged the members into thinking how transformation must take place in relation to our prayer, ourselves, our organization and our communities. Members and organizers of the event, Liz Greer and Wendy Halligan led a Prayer and Reflection activity which was followed with Midday Prayers by Ada Lawson, Diocesan President for Dublin and Glendalough. Sheran enthused and thanked the Diocesan Presidents and presented to each of them a medal, a lovely memento of the occasion. A display of African Dancing was greatly enjoyed before the sumptuous lunch to send everybody off on the return to home. Alongside and afterwards a Mothers’ Union Service to mark the International 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence (25 Nov-10 Dec) was recorded by RTE television to be broadcast on Sunday 4 December on RTE 1.
