St. Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, Galway 700th Anniversary Service Celebrating St. Nicholas’ Past, Present and Future was held on Sunday 9th February 2020.
Honoured guests included Michael D. Higgins, President of Ireland and Mrs. Higgins, and church and civic leaders.
Sung by the Parish Choir and Choristers of St. Nicholas’ Schola Cantorum, the service reflected on our church as a house of God, and celebrated the communities connected to it and which have their home here. We recalled the witness of the building as a place of baptism, prayer, teaching and the Eucharist. We also acknowledged the contribution of a variety of people and organisations to our church community, and the common threads running through our rich history.
To mark this 700th Anniversary Service the bells of St. Nicholas’ rang out a full seven hundred times before the service.
