Music In St Johns Tralee

Music fans are in a treat this Friday as renowned trad crossover group The Olllam visit Tralee as part of there current Irish tour, The Olllam with support from singer and guitarist Síomha will perform in the unique surrounds to St. Johns Church, Ashe Street Tralee on on Friday 27th of July.

Doors open at 7.30 and the performance will begin at 8pm, tickets are 15e available at the door.

Renowned for their trance–like melodies, stunning instrumental virtuosity and magical marriage of tradition and technology, this super-group featuring members of Vulfpeck and Lúnasa, have discovered a synergy within their diverse musical backgrounds.

The Olllam were formed in 2012 as a collaboration between Belfast piper John McSherry of Lúnasa & Coolfin and seminal Detroit musicians Tyler Duncan, Michael Shimmin, Joe Dart, Theo Katzman and Woody Goss. A resulting album was released on Compass Records.

Since then, Katzman, Dart and Goss have found world fame as members of the cult band Vulfpeck whilst McSherry has released two solo albums and has been touring with Belfast trad band Ulaid who recently released an acclaimed album, “A Note Let Go” with Duke Special.

The rhythm section of bassist Joe Dart and drummer Mike Shimmin is unique, whilst Tyler Duncan and John McSherry on pipes and low whistles are a melodic and harmonic dream. Duncan’s inventive musical arrangements are simply outstanding. On their summer 2018 dates in Ireland these four founding members they will be joined by Detroit keyboard player Joe Hettinga and Limerick guitarist Sean O’Meara.

Support from singer and guitarist SÍOMHA who dances the line between folk, jazz and neo-soul effortlessly, taking audiences on an unexpected, and unforgettable journey with her soulful melodies. Always proud of her Irish heritage, she performs her songs in both the English and Irish languages. The beautiful landscape and rugged nature of her native West of Ireland are a huge source of inspiration for this proud Clare artist, leading her to create a soulful and unique style of music that has enthralled anyone who hears it.
