Junior Summer Camp 2019

Junior Summer Camp by Wren Higgins (Birr)

The Junior Summer Camp this year was held in Ovoca Manor, Avoca   Co. Wicklow. Throughout the week the majority of our activities were on site in the amazing facilities that the centre had to offer. These included jacobs ladder, orienteering, high & low ropes,  crate stacking, rock climbing, archery, giant slide, raft building, leap of faith, climbing, abseiling  and bush craft. During the course of the week we had a manhunt, roasted marshmallows on the fire and targeted each other in a water balloon fight. During free time sessions the participant’s time was spent mostly in the games room provided by the centre and playing soccer in the sports hall. On Wednesday we were off on a bus firstly to the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin and Tayto Park in Co.Meath. This day was a highlight where everyone enjoyed the activities that were on hand, from the water slides and the lazy river to the rollercoasters and rides.

The week was topped off with a worship session each evening throughout the week. The theme for the week was “Love” with a sessions focusing on “Love” for oneself, friends, family, international stranger, those in need in Ireland with the closing session focusing on God’s Love for each of everyone. The Worship sessions were mainly facilitated by Sophia Levie and Edward Hardy .We were delighted to be joined by Emma from Tearfund for two sessions and Fr. Peter McVerry from the Peter McVerry Trust for one session on Thursday evening.

Everyone listened intently to the information and stories from both our visitors. Overall a great week was had by all the young people and leaders who attended.
