Bishop Rooke’s Statement on the retirement of Archbishop Neary

Speaking at the Diocesan Synod of The Church of Ireland united Dioceses of Tuam, Killala and Achonry held on Saturday 25th September in St Mary’s Cathedral, Tuam, the Bishop, the Rt Rev Patrick Rooke spoke of the announcement of the impending retirement of the Archbishop of Tuam, the Most Rev Dr Michael Neary. In the course of his remarks he paid the following tribute to his colleague….

‘Archbishop Michael Neary has been a good friend to the Church of Ireland community in the West over his long episcopate of 26 years. I personally have been on the receiving end of his kindness and hospitality. He has always gone out of his way, in his humble and quiet manner, to make those of us from the Church of Ireland feel welcome and affirmed. I want to wish him a long and happy retirement back in his native Castlebar.’
