UDYC’s November Update

Taking a Leading Role – Part 3 by Grace Langley (Nenagh)

We began with a workshop led by Edward Hardy, where he recapped what we had learned over the past two leadership weekends.  The Qualities and Responsibilities of a Youth Leaders was particularly a reference point with a key quality identified of youth leaders as Role Models for the young people who were involved.   On Saturday, we attended a Safeguarding Trust workshop facilitated by Kim Hutchinson and John St George in Cloughjordan Hall. There were almost 30 attendees at this event from the surrounding area. After this, Eleanor Walker (Croom) facilitated a workshop on “Challenging Behaviour”. Eleanor particularly referenced the various types of learning difficulties that could be encountered by leaders with participants and made suggestions how to ensure that their wellbeing and needs are facilitated. That night, we were tasked with creating steps to planning a specific event for the future. This gave us an insight into planning and difficulties associated with planning an event. The leadership weekends have given us, as new leaders, the skills required to be leaders on future UDYC & parish events.

We are delighted to report that those who have successfully completed the Leadership course are as follows: Anna Mae Powell ( Nenagh),  Adam Gardiner ( Castletown) , James Larkin (Newmarket- On Fergus), Isobel Wallace ( Roscrea) , Wren Higgins ( Birr) , Robyn Cleary (Nenagh) and myself Grace Langley ( Nenagh).
