Tuam Cathedral Installations

Three new members were added to the Chapter of Saint Mary’s Cathedral, Tuam on Sunday 20th January 2019.

At a Service of Choral Evensong, The Dean of Tuam,  Killala and Achonry, The Very Reverend Alistair Grimason, installed The Venerable Stephen McWhirter to the Dignitary of Archdeacon of Tuam, The Very Reverend Lynda Peilow to the Dignitary of Provost of Tuam and The Reverend Canon Dr. Andrew Ison to the Prebend of Balla-Killabegs.

Choral Evensong was sung by The Dean and the Choir of Saint Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, Galway with Mark Duley as Choir Master and Organist. The preacher was the Dean of Limerick, The Very Reverend Niall Slaone who spoke about the role and duties of Cathedrals and Cathedral Chapters in the life of both Diocese and Church. The Bishop of Tuam, Killala and Achonry pronounced the Benediction.

Tea, provided by the large congregation who had travelled from all over the Diocese, was served afterwards in the Synod Hall by the cathedral team ably assisted by helpers from Galway whose assistance was gratefully acknowledged.

During the tea a presentation was made by the Dean to Reverend Stan Evans and his wife Rosie. Stan had recently retired from the post of Provost of Tuam and has been appointed chaplain to a parish in Lanzarote.  He will take up his post in April 2019.  Bishop Rooke spoke warmly of Stan’s contribution to the parish on Omey ( where he has served for the past 5 years as Priest in Charge ) and his equally significant contribution to the life of the diocese during his time in TKA.
