The Diocesan Synod of TKA met in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Tuam on Saturday 25th September with all present expressing their delight at being able, once more, to meet face to face albeit observing every necessary Covid protocol and restriction.
That delight, however, was tinged with real sadness as we understood that was the last time a specifically TKA Synod would be held with our own, specific and stand-alone bishop in the chair. Henceforth, if all the required resolutions were passed both at TKA Synod 2021 and that of Limerick and Killaloe, meeting on the same day ( and the resolutions were indeed passed ) our next Synod would be a joint one in a different place.
Synod began with a celebration of the Holy Communion incorporating the instalation of Canon Jen McWhirter to her Prebend stall in the Cathedral.

The usual reports of various committes were presented and approved along with several resolutions in the prescribed manner.
Most significant among these was the resolution to approve the General Synod Bill which unites the dioceses of TKA and Limerick and Killaloe as and from 1st November 2021. After two initial speeches, the matter was put to Diocesan Synod and it passed without a single voice raised in opposition.
