Statement from the Church of Ireland Bishop of Tuam, the Rt Revd Patrick Rooke, with regard to the former mother and child home in Tuam issued 13th March 2017:
‘Like many others, I have been horrified by the latest revelations concerning the former St Mary’s Home in Tuam. In light of the research carried out by Tuam local historian Catherine Corless, I had welcomed the announcement of a commission of inquiry into this and all such homes from the past. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with those affected who have lived for more than fifty years with the sorrow and pain of what they experienced.’
