The Church of Ireland’s policies for child and adult safeguarding outline the policies that all dioceses and parishes should adhere to. These policies have been developed in line with state legislation and guidance and are enshrined in Chapter XVI of the Constitution of the Church of Ireland.
In the Dioceses of Tuam, Limerick & Killaloe, Damian Shorten is the Safeguarding Compliance Officer. His role is to support all those in the Dioceses of Tuam, Limerick & Killaloe in their safeguarding responsibilities.

To report a concern, suspicion or allegation regarding child welfare or regarding the welfare of an adult in a parish, please use the relevant channel below. Where you have reason to believe that a child or adult is at immediate risk of harm, you should contact the Gardaí as soon as possible.
Child welfare
The incumbent/priest-in-charge of each of the parishes in the Dioceses is a member of the parish panel, which maintains oversight of all matters regarding child safeguarding in the parish on behalf of the select vestry. The welfare of an adult
The implementation of adult safeguarding is overseen by the Diocesan Adult Safeguarding Panel (not the parish panel). The members of the Diocesan Adult Safeguarding Panel can be contacted by email: [email protected].
To report a concern, suspicion or allegation regarding child welfare or regarding the welfare of an adult at a diocesan event (for example, activities of the United Diocesan Youth Council), please contact the members of the Diocesan Child Safeguarding Panel or the Diocesan Adult Safeguarding Panel by email: [email protected] or [email protected]. Where you have reason to believe that a child or adult is at immediate risk of harm, you should contact the Gardaí as soon as possible.
