At Diocesan Synod, Bishop Patrick announced that he has appointed Rev Stephen McWhirter to be Archdeacon of Killala and Achonry to succeeded Rev Alan Synnott. When asked for his reaction to the appointment, The Venerable Stephen McWhirter said, ‘ I’m delighted to have been appointed to this position and count it an honour to serve the Bishop and Diocese in this way. I look forward to working with the Senior Clergy Team and the clergy and laity of Tuam, Killala & Achonry. I’m passionate about God’s call on the ‘priesthood of all believers’ and hope this position allows me to encourage and promote lay ministry and involvement in our Church.’
