It was announced in churches yesterday that the Venerable Stephen McWhirter has been appointed as Rector of Rossorry Parish in Clogher Diocese.   The Archdeacon has worked tirelessly for the Killala & Kilmoremoy Group of Parishes here in TKA and for the Diocese, steering us through the recent episcopal vacancy.  The Rt Revd Michael Burrows said “News of the impending departure of both Stephen and Jen McWhirter to new ministries in the diocese of Clogher has brought sadness to our diocese.  While we naturally wish them well, we realise what an extraordinary gap this will leave in our lives here.  They have both played remarkably fruitful roles not only in Tuam Killala and Achonry but also in the processes that have led to the formation of our present United Dioceses. And for many of us they have been valued friends and guides – in saying this I certainly include myself.  They will probably be with us until around the close of the year but definite transition arrangements have yet to emerge.  We hold them in our affection and in our prayers”.
