The Revd Scott Elliott was ordained to the diaconate by Bishop Michael Burrows on Sunday, 8th June, 2025 at Saint Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick. The address was given by the Very Revd Kenneth Hall, Dean of Clogher.

Revd Elliott will serve as Curate-Assistant to Limerick City Parish, working alongside the Dean, the Very Revd Niall JW Sloane.

Originally from County Fermanagh, Scott was raised on his family’s farm, an environment that instilled in him a strong sense of community. He pursued theological studies at Queen’s University Belfast before entering ordination training. Upon graduation, he worked for several years within the Community Wellbeing Department of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, where he was engaged in initiatives aimed at supporting local wellbeing and development.

For the past seven years, he has served as Parish Reader at St Macartin’s Cathedral, Enniskillen, assisting the Dean of Clogher in liturgical and pastoral ministry. During this period, he also had the privilege of providing parish cover for both Innishmacsaint Parish Church and the Clogher Cathedral Group. His time in each of these parishes was deeply formative, and he says he holds very fond memories of the people and communities he encountered there. Dean Kenneth Hall has noted that he is the first ordinand to come from the cathedral in over 75 years!
Scott feels that a sense of vocation to ordained ministry has been present in his life from a young age. While he has found meaning in various professional roles, he feels it is within the life and ministry of the Church that he has experienced the greatest sense of purpose and fulfilment. In September 2022, he commenced training for the ordained ministry at the Church of Ireland Theological Institute in Dublin. As part of his training, he undertook parish placements in the Garrison Group of Parishes, in Rathfarnham Parish, and at Salisbury Cathedral. In his final year, he completed a thesis focused on the role of cathedrals in outreach within the Irish context, an area of ministry that he is particularly passionate about.

Scott has a longstanding interest in church history, particularly in the field of architecture. This interest recently led him to Paris, where he had the privilege of exploring the newly rededicated Notre-Dame Cathedral. It was a profound experience that deepened my appreciation for the enduring witness of the Church through its sacred spaces.

After now completing his theological training, Scott looks forward to the opportunity to serve God under the guidance of Dean Niall Sloane and all in Limerick. It is with gratitude and anticipation that he begins this new chapter in ministry, and he looks forward to meeting and journeying with the parishioners of Limerick City Parish and diocesan community in the months and years to come.

We offer Rev Elliott a warm welcome to the diocese and wish him many blessings in his new ministry.
