Lockeen Church (Birr Group of parishes) is featured in a new book to be launched on November 21st. ‘Graveyards and Churches of Carrig and Lougheen – a Local History Project 2021’.

In keeping with the parish’s strong ecumenical tradition, it covers both the Church of Ireland and Roman Catholic churches of the parish. Their history, clergy past and present, present laity and burials near them are all included. There is even a note on the various different spellings of Lockeen!

The book was compiled by a committee drawn from members of both churches and led by retired Carrig School Principal Tony Dargan. It will be on sale from the 21st November at both Churches, Carrig Village Shop and from Peter Whyte at 086 0874841, price €15.
